After leaving Lovina, we take the main road along northern Bali for over two hours by taxi, heading to Amed—a small coastal village famous for its diving spots, relaxed atmosphere, and volcanic landscapes. Amed is best known for its stunning views of Mount Agung, Bali’s sacred volcano, which towers at 3,031 meters. It remains one of the island’s active volcanoes, with its last eruption in 2019. For the Balinese, Agung is more than just a mountain—it’s a powerful spiritual presence that deeply influences their beliefs and ceremonies.
Upon arrival, we drop our bags at Villa WAWAWEWE, a small villa with an outdoor bathroom, recommended by Sherli, whom we met in Ubud. The view is breathtaking—an infinity pool overlooks the Java Sea. While the locals are as welcoming as ever, many try to sell us excursions or souvenirs, which sometimes takes away from the natural charm of Balinese hospitality.
The kids keep making small progress in swimming and take full advantage of the pool whenever they can. While Anaïs and the kids enjoy their milkshake breaks, I grab my fins for a bit of snorkeling just off the hotel. With direct access to the sea, exploring the reefs is effortless, and I was lucky enough to swim alongside a sea turtle—an experience that never gets old!
When it comes to food, Amed does not disappoint. Every restaurant has its own unique atmosphere: at Rimba Café, we enjoy beautiful decor and a varied menu. Galanga offers a more authentic experience, immersing us in the local culture, while Sunset Point provides a breathtaking view of Mount Agung in a relaxed and festive setting.
During the day, the kids have fun at Jameluk Beach, where the black sand and calm sea make it the perfect spot for them.
As for activities, it’s a pretty relaxed rhythm—between the pool and a few dives for me. We’re also keeping an eye on the elections, both in Tournai and the U.S. presidential race—reminding us that the world keeps turning, even from our little bubble in Bali!
In a few days, we’ll be back on the road, this time heading to the rice fields for some more hands-on and sporty adventures. Stay tuned… more to come soon!
