Bangkok: Christmas Far Away, But Close to the Heart

Spending Christmas in Bangkok is something truly special. In the days leading up to it, we crisscrossed the city from north to south, east to west—by Grab, taxi, on foot, and even by skytrain. Every ride brought its share of surprises.

This city seems to have the whole world to offer: lively streets, unexpected squares, hidden restaurants, and even trailers turned into fast-food spots.

A Culinary Gem in Bangkok

Among our discoveries, we found a true culinary gem: Supaniga Eating Room, a Thai restaurant recommended by the Michelin Guide. Their Moo Cha Muang, a slow-cooked pork dish with garcinia leaves (1 chili pepper on the menu), was an absolute delight.

We’re used to spicy food here, but honestly, this one could easily pass for three chili peppers back home. Still, the incredible flavors more than made up for the little fire it sparked inside!

Another Great Experience: CentralWorld

Then came another memorable experience: CentralWorld, a massive, ultra-modern shopping mall. There, we watched a movie in one of Bangkok’s most high-tech cinemas: Mufasa: The Lion King. The theater was truly impressive.

As for the movie, everyone loved it… except for Martin, who slept through the entire thing. Yet, when he woke up, he still confidently declared that the film was "awesome"!

A Warm Welcome at Our Bangkok Hotel

Our hotel in Bangkok is far from a palace, but the staff goes above and beyond, and that makes all the difference. The "boss" of the hotel seems to really like us—he even let the kids go up on the rooftop to enjoy the view. And when they get a little too close to the (rather chilly) pool, he turns on the water jets and plays music to make the moment more… let’s say… fun?!? 😆

Breakfast is just as unexpected. While the buffet is already generous, he personally brings us extra plates filled with the most random combinations: nuggets, fries, Nutella, and hot milk. We never really know what’s coming next, but the kids are absolutely loving this very "customized" service.

A Christmas Far from Home, but Close to the Heart

Spending Christmas away from home was a first for us. But thanks to technology, we were able to send our holiday wishes in advance (thanks to the six-hour time difference). That small moment of connection warmed our hearts before we continued our evening as a family.

For Christmas Eve, we headed to the Chao Phraya River, where we boarded a boat for our own little family celebration. The night featured a live concert, a delicious buffet, cocktails (for the grown-ups!), and a little party on the deck, surrounded by the illuminated Bangkok skyline.

The contrast between the festive atmosphere on the water and the city’s glowing skyscrapers was magical—a memory we’ll cherish for a long time.

The Next Morning: A Visit from Santa

The next morning, Santa Claus found our balcony and left his gifts! That sneaky guy will stop at nothing to spread joy—even on the other side of the world. The kids were absolutely over the moon. We hope he spoiled you too! 🎁✨

Little Stars in the City

We often joke about how our two little blond adventurers still cause quite a stir here. Many hotels take photos of us or the kids for their social media or Booking pages. We keep popping up in places without even knowing it!

Slowing Down Between Christmas and New Year

For now, we’ve decided to take it easy between Christmas and New Year’s. The kids have gotten really good at keeping up with our walking pace—much better than at the start of the trip—but we also know when to listen to signs of fatigue.

This morning, Martin had a slight fever, so we’re staying in and taking it slow. Rest for everyone, and we’ll keep an eye on him.

Surprises on the Way

New surprises are already in the works for the coming days, but it’s still a bit too early to reveal them. We’ll keep a little mystery for now! What’s certain is that we’re making the most of our time together in Bangkok, recharging before the New Year.

See You Soon for the Next Chapter

We’re not sure if we’ll write again before or after December 31st, so just in case, we want to wish you a wonderful end to the year and, most importantly, the very best for 2025. May this new year bring you everything you wish for, surrounded by the people you love.

See you soon, and thank you for being part of our adventure!
