From the Mountain Serenity of Munduk to the Shores of Pemuteran

After the peaceful mountain retreat of Munduk, we drove west and arrived in Pemuteran.
A quiet little village, a main street, a few small alleys hiding warungs and dive clubs… and a scorching heat. Thankfully, our guesthouse, Mango Moon, has a pool—and what a relief! We’re in it almost every day, especially as the kids are getting more and more confident in the water.
Our Little Apprentice Divers
After spending so much time dipping their heads underwater, mask and snorkel are starting to feel more natural to them. The little ones may not be pros yet, but they’re doing pretty well! They’re beginning to feel at ease in this aquatic world.
And here, the beach is stunning. The coral is making a strong comeback, thanks to the Biorock structures placed on the seabed, allowing marine life to reclaim its home—a perfect spot for observing underwater wonders, even from the surface.
A Turtle Mission!
A highlight of our stay: releasing baby turtles into the ocean! Watching these tiny creatures rush toward the sea, knowing the dangers ahead, is simply magical. Only about 1% survive to adulthood…
Martin and Marion proudly named their turtles Elsa and Morus, and they even received little certificates to commemorate the moment.
Swimming at Taman Sari & Underwater Discoveries
For a change of scenery (or rather, a change of sand), we often head to Taman Sari, a beachfront hotel where the black sand beach fascinates the kids. Between bursts of laughter, they build castles and run barefoot on the sun-warmed shore.
We also had a special gift from our dear friends to use: a diving trip with Phocéa Bali. Off we went to Menjangan Island, a little gem in the Bali Barat National Park.
The moment we dived in, we knew we had entered another world—blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, and at least six turtles!
Meanwhile, Marion and Martin were floating above us, snorkeling with Pio and Marc, true little explorers of the blue world. In Marion’s own words, they saw:
“Unicorn fish”
“Sardines”
“Lots of little blue fish in a line” 😊
It seems they’re really getting into it—and they even recognize some underwater hand signals now!
As for Martin, our exhausted little explorer, he decided to take a well-deserved break afterward. Snuggled up on the boat, he let himself be rocked to sleep by the waves…

What's Next?
In two days, we’ll be heading further east, where new encounters await in the water… and who knows? Maybe even bigger fish!
